Halloween Fun!

I love Halloween! Lots of fun things to do!
My class is in the midst of a door decorating contest at my school and my students did an awesome job! I found this great idea on Pinterest.  Will try to find the source for it for you!  But the results are awesome!

I got very brave this weekend and posted my very first package up on Teachers Pay Teachers!  Lots to learn on the way but with the help of my family we got it to work! It is a compilation of some of the Halloween projects I have put together over the last little while!   It has a little bit of everything!

Here are a few of the thumbnails I put up so you can get a taste of the package.  The package has 41 pages and it's FREE!  Check it out!

I did the Haunted House count-up booklet with my class today!  They did a great job.  I used the packages of foam stickers that you can get at the dollar store to make it a little bit easier.  I have also done it with the cut out pictures.  Like the results both ways!

The children really liked the idea of letting the characters peek through the windows!

Witch's Brew Cafe!

We have been having a lot of fun with our new centre.
The Witch's Brew Cafe is open for business!
Over the past while, I have been collecting all the cool bugs, rats, and bats that you can find in the dollar stores around Halloween.  I also found some neat cauldrons to create our delicious concoctions in and the little ones to use for serving dishes.
I created a cloze recipe sheet that allows the children to choose the number of items to add to their recipe and record it.  They can create their recipes and serve them to their friends.  Or they can create their friend's recipes!
Lots of reading and counting practice hidden in the fun!

A copy of  the recipe sheet can be found in my Halloween Fun package at my Teachers Pay Teachers site.

It's my first package so it's FREE!

There are lots of other items in the package that I hope you will find useful!

Happy Halloween!

Batty about Bats!

Bats

We are currently working on a mini-theme about bats.  These bats are the final product!  The children loved making them and they are relatively easy to do!

After reading a variety of non-fiction books about bats we compiled a list of our favourite types of bats and completed a frame containing their favourite picks!

The sheet is fine but we always like to make our final product look super funky so we added the fun cover!

I pre-made the covers for the children using a 11 X 17 piece of black construction paper folded in half. Then I folded both ends of the paper toward the middle.  By rounding off the corners and cutting the bottom of the paper into a upside-down wave I had the body part.  I cut out a simple head shape and provided a single round sticker for eyes.

The children completed the cloze sheet, put their poem in the middle of the book cover.  We made sure that the scooped part of the paper was at the top so that our bats could hang on the tree upside-down.  They glued the head on and then added the eyes.  The eyes are made with a single sticker cut in half and placed on the face.

A copy of the cloze sheet I created is shown below.  If you would like a copy please click on the link.

The bulletin board tree is twisted up brown paper.  I attached leaf garlands along the branches to get a fall tree look!

The children are really proud of their projects!

I am very lucky to have a laptop computer with WIFI and a projector in my class!  This allows me to show videos that correspond to the subject we are studying.

The Primary Games website has an excellent video about the flying fox bat.  It is called Nigel's Bat Adventure.  Check it out!
